Bow of the USS Intrepid

"I wish to have no Connection with any Ship that does not Sail fast for I intend to go in harm's way."
~ Captain John Paul Jones

One of my first memories of New York city is the USS Intrepid.  I remember the trip, the drive and the adventure.  I remember the cool night of sleeping just outside of New York with my father each of us huddle in our seat waiting for the dawn.  I imagine the conditions in the Ford XR4Ti were far less comfortable for him then for my small frame.

Out of all the places we visited that weekend the USS Intrepid Air & Space Museum has stuck with me as the clearest memory.

I try to visit the site every time I find myself in the city.  Even if only to gaze at the ship and remember.
